In 2015 at 19 she released her debut single Here. It received praise from music critics and listeners. It reached the top spot at 19th in both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone called the song one of their Top Songs in 2015. The same year she launched her first album Know It All, the song Scars to Your Beautiful ranked on the Billboard Hot 100 and Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200. It was also one of the five original songs. In her interview with Rap-Up the listeners discussed Cara's self-love journey and her fears. Cara is well-known for her ability to incorporate the themes of mental health and compassion and self-love in her songs. Her music is an expression of her own struggles in dealing with anxiety and depression. Reuters stated that she calls her album "half turbulent, and half finished". Therapy helped her grow and she encourages others to seek help if necessary. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto in Canada. Her birth date was July 11, 1996 to parents of Italian descent. She was given a guitar by her parents when she was 10, which ignited her musical passion. When she was 13, she started covering songs she adored on YouTube to demonstrate to the public that she was talented and was able to go after a career as a musician. Sweater Weather is among these covers which led to her being discovered at the time by EP Entertainment. This record label let her write new songs of her own.
