Alessia Cara

When she was 19 at the time, she dropped her debut single Here. It quickly became a hit with both critics as well as admirers praised it. It peaked at number 19 on both the Canadian Hot 100 and Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone named the song one of the Top Songs of 2015. The same year, she dropped her debut album Know It All with the third track Scars to Your Beautiful being one of the five original songs which reached the top of Billboard charts, including the Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. The song was particularly memorable since based on her interview with rapper Rap-Up, many of the listeners shared their experiences of doubting herself and learning how to accept herself. Cara is known for incorporating the themes of mental health and kindness and self-love into her music. Every song Cara sings comes directly from her battle with mental illness, insomnia and other health issues. According to a Reuters Interview, her album was described as half tumultuous half perfected. Her growth was aided by therapy. She also encourages her fellow singers who need help to seek support. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on the 11th of July 1996. At the age of 10 old her parents gave her a guitar that became the beginning of her love for music. When she was 13, she started covering songs she loved on YouTube to demonstrate to the public that she was talented and was able to go after a career as an artist. One of her covers, Sweater Weather, was what got her noticed. EP Entertainment gave her the chance to write and record her own tracks.
