In 2015 at 19 she published her first debut single, Here. It received lots of praise and was well-received from critics as well as listeners. The song reached the top spot on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone ranked the song as one of 2015's Best Songs. That same year, she dropped her debut album Know It All with the third track Scars to Your Beautiful being one of five original tracks that peaked at Billboard charts, including those of the Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 as well as the Billboard Hot 100. The track was distinctive because many people related to the interview she did with Rap-Up about her struggle in learning to love and accept herself. Cara incorporates messages about kindness and loving yourself into her music. The music she sings is reflective of her personal struggle with mental illness and insomnia. According to an Reuters interview, the album has been described as a half tumultuous half perfected. People have told her that she experienced growth through therapy. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto in Canada. She was born on July 11, 1996 to parents with Italian descent. At the age of 10 old, her parents gifted her a guitar, which was the starting point of her passion for music. She began to cover her favourite songs at age 13, to prove to everyone that she had the skills and the courage necessary to be the next singer. In fact, one of the covers Sweater Weather got noticed by a record label called EP Entertainment which allowed her to write and create her tracks.
